Mississauga- The Roofing Negotiating Committee and your Ontario elected leadership are writing to provide the most recent update to 2022 Roofing Negotiations.
During the past two weeks the Negotiating Committee exchanged revised proposals with the Roofing Employers’ Association to continue negotiations for the renewal of the Roofing ICI Collective Agreement.
On Wednesday May 4th 2022 the Employers met in person with the Negotiating Committee. The Negotiations improved dramatically from previous sessions and together the parties made significant progress on resolving local union proposals and counter-proposals.
While much was accomplished, we are still very far apart on cost-of-living costs that have risen so dramatically in Ontario. In order to assist with further negotiations, the parties have requested that the Ontario government appoint a conciliation officer to act as a mediator. On Friday May 6 the Union received confirmation that the conciliation officer will be appointed. We expect to meet with the conciliation officer before May 13, 2022 and continue negotiations with the Employers Association in person on May 19 and 20, 2022.
While your Negotiating Committee is hopeful that we can resolve all outstanding matters we are still recommending that members employed in ICI Roofing prepare for the necessity of a strike. It is imperative that we are able to convince the Employers that we are serious about negotiating a fair agreement that addresses the dramatic increases in cost of living facing our members.
Your local unions have scheduled strike votes across Ontario. We need every roofing member working in ICI to vote for strike action in the event we can’t get a fair deal.
