Sheet Metal Negotiations Update – April 29th, 2022
Notice to all members of Sheet Metal Workers International Association employed in ICI Sheet Metal in the Province of Ontario
The Sheet Metal Negotiating Committee and your Ontario elected leadership are writing to provide an update to the 2022 Sheet Metal ICI Negotiations.
Your Negotiating Committee met with the Contractors’ Association on Thursday April 28 and Friday April 29. We have made significant progress and discussions have largely been positive. However there remain significant outstanding matters that are unresolved. This includes but is not limited to earning overtime rates on benefits and pension contributions, cost of living adjustments and a fair monetary increase for our members.
We are continuing negotiations over the next several days and will meet person with the Contractors’ Association on Thursday, May 5 2022 in an effort to resolve the outstanding matters in dispute. We are cautiously optimistic that we can reach a tentative agreement on or before May 7, 2022. However, we are preparing for the possibility that the Contractor’s Association may be unwilling to meet the needs of our members on the outstanding matters. Your Negotiating Committee is now recommending that local unions prepare strike votes to be completed by May 15, 2022.
In the event that we reach a tentative agreement then the strike vote will be cancelled and ratification meetings will be scheduled instead.
Until further notice all members should continue to report to work as scheduled.
As more information becomes available we will provide further updates.
Please return to this webpage or your Local’s website and/or social media for all future updates.
