Sheet Metal Negotiations Update – April 25, 2022

Notice to all members of Sheet Metal Workers International Association employed in ICI Sheet Metal in the Province of Ontario

On behalf of the Sheet Metal Negotiating Committee and your elected leadership in Ontario we are writing to provide an update to the 2022 Sheet Metal Negotiations.

Your Negotiating Committee has met with the designated representatives from the Sheet Metal Contractors’ Association during the week of Monday April 18 to Friday April 22.  The negotiations were largely positive.   Modest improvements on cost of living adjustments to the Foreman Premiums, Zones and Board Allowances have been agreed to.  In addition, the Contractors Association and the Negotiating Committee have resolved all proposals for Siding and Decking (Appendix “A”) and for Test and Balance Technicians.

While there has been significant progress on all other outstanding matters the Contractors and the Negotiating Committee remain far apart on collective agreement enforcement improvements, monetary increases, hours earned on overtime for pension and benefits and most importantly cost of living adjustments that address the lost income of our members due to rising housing and fuel costs.

The Negotiating Committee will resume bargaining with the Contractors’ Association on Thursday April 28 and Friday April 29.  The Negotiating Committee is optimistic that we can reach an agreement before April 30, 2022 if the Contractors’ Association continues to work with us in the bargaining process.  Your Negotiating Committee is fully committed to resolving all outstanding matters.  We will be successful in attaining a fair and reasonable tentative agreement with your continued support.

As more information becomes available we will provide further updates.

Please return to this webpage or your Local’s website and/or social media for all future updates.

In Solidarity,

2022 Sheet Metal Negotiating Committee
